I think I just saw UFO!
In fact it was a UFO because it was certainly an unidentified, flying object. What exactly it was, I couldn’t tell you.
It's Tuesday February 4th 2025, Ontario Canada, east of Toronto.
My neighbour asked me to go and look at her house once in awhile to make sure there is no flooding or any pipes breaking because of the cold while she's in Mexico for a month. She said don't worry about the snow because she got a young neighbourhood girl to shovel their snow.
Well this night was so cold and if the snow hadn't been cleared it's turned into crystallized ice like and it was hard to scrape off the driveway. It was so quiet out, I could hear the poor girl scraping, struggling with the driveway at night in the cold and I felt bad for her so I was going to go and help her with the snow but then I thought first of all she was asked to do the snow so I didn't want to go out there and do it myself to make it look like she wasn't doing her job you know? But I also wanted to help her because I knew it was really hard, like ice. Secondly I've been putting off measuring the tent in the backyard.
Yes I went and helped her but first I had to do my measurement because I had been putting it off for so many days, I need the measurement so that I can go to the Princess Auto and buy a tarp. Meanwhile it would give the young girl time to remove some of the snow by herself.
As most of you know I have a tent/shelter in the backyard. Recently it's been ripping (they only last 2 or 3 years as I found out) and every day I say to myself, “Self, I'm going to go out there and measure it so that I will know what size tarp to buy to put over the entire thing.”
It's supposed to be 10x20ft shelter but because of the curve and the height, a tarp as I measured would have to be about 18 ft due to the circumference. Actually 20x20 would probably be suitable but I think 18 ft on the sides would keep it off the ground enough so I could tie it down you know? Like the tarp shouldn't go right to the ground on the sides. So perfectly I think I need something 18x17 ft but they don't come in odd sizes so I will get whatever is closest.
Anyway it was a really cold night, -21.5C (-6.7F) perfectly clear and absolutely quiet. The snow that I failed to clear off my deck is now frozen and walking over it with my boots made a crunching sound. I turned on my patio lights while I was doing this measurement.
It was approximately 20:00h. In order to get the tape measure over the tent I had to be like a cowboy make a bunch of loops with the plastic tape and try to throw it on top because I couldn't reach over the curve of the roof. The peak is about 8ft high.
So as I'm doing this I'm looking up at a beautiful night sky you could see all the stars and there's the start of the new moon about 1/4 full and there was a little bit of, I don't know if you call it, a cloud or fog or something. It looked like a Milky Way except a lot lower. Probably low lying clouds. Certainly not as high as the milky way.
So as I'm trying to lasso the tape measure above the tent, I see this light. I'm always interested when I hear or see a helicopter so I stood there and watched it. Definitely, 100% NOT a helicopter and the light was oblong, not round.
I didn't think I would be outside for that long so I only had a sweater and it was cold but I couldn't take my eyes off this thing. It was about helicopter height say 3,000 - 3500 ft? But on a perfectly quiet night it would have been very loud and it would have been very obvious that it was a helicopter but this made no sound at all! And it was going really really slowly!
The light, it was really bright it was moving in an easterly direction it was easy to see how slowly it was moving as it passed over the tips of the trees. Also it did not blink like aircraft do. Even when the police helicopter has their search light on, they also have flashing lights. This was just a solid light.
Now here's where it gets really weird. It was nearly stopped but still moving easterly when out of the side came like a puff of smoke!
Remember above when I said it was kind of foggy or cloudy whatever that was that it was traveling through, clouds I guess, this puff of smoke pushed out away like when you mix oil and water and they don't mix it dissipated whatever it was moving through.
As the puff of smoke got larger it was like somebody making smoke rings! You know when you smoke a cigarette and you make a circles? I forget what you call it but the smoke goes out and it looks like a ring? Smoke rings? Well there was a single ring getting larger as it went out!
As the ring moved out through the "Milky Way" (clouds, fog whatever it was) the ring parted the fog/clouds! That's the best way I know how to explain it.
The ring got really big. At this point I was a little concerned that maybe something up there was spraying us! Whatever it was was still moving Eastward but this puff of smoke shot out to the north so definitely wasn't like a propulsion of any sort because it wasn't in the same direction it was 90° to the way the light was traveling.
So between being a little concerned about what was coming out of the side of this whatever it was, and me wanting to get a picture, I was torn between watching the event or running inside and trying to get my camera.
As you know from where the tent is in my backyard to my deck is only a matter of steps.
I turned and made those steps maybe four or five steps to get onto the deck to get the camera and it took one more look back and it was gone!
Whatever it was was close enough that I could make it out without a light. So even if whatever it was shut the lights off I still would have been able to see it against the moonlight but I couldn't! Absolutely nothing and at the slow speed it was traveling it wouldn't have made it more than a couple of tree tops across in the time that it took me to make those few steps from the tent to my deck!
I walked all around the backyard to make sure it wasn't hidden behind a tree or to see if it's sped up and went somewhere else but there was nothing else moving in the sky!
At this point only having a sweater on I was getting cold so I gave up and I went inside got my jacket and went to help the girl across the street with the snow. All the while doing the snow still looking up to see if anything was moving but I saw nothing after that.
I was tempted to tell the young girl, ask her if she saw it but she was a young girl maybe in her teens and she'd probably think I was crazy so I said nothing. I just helped her with the snow, closed up my neighbour’s garage and came back to report this.
Since I had no camera with me the best I could do is take a couple pictures of my deck to show you the reference between where the tent / shelter is compared to my deck to give you a reference of space and using my Photoshop skills I made my own rendition of what I saw above.
Or at least what I think I saw unless I am totally going crazy. The only thing that makes me feel that I'm not crazy is because it wasn't just a glance! I was staring at it for some time. And the reference to the other stars and the proximity of it not being way up in the stars but more like helicopter height, that all tells me that I really don't think I was seeing things I think I saw something but I can't explain what it was.
Wondering if anyone else in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Ontario Canada saw anything tonight? I know it was too cold to be outside but you never know. Although cold it was a beautiful night. Maybe there are some other star gazers out there?
